Hellcats: Bring it On comes to the small screen in this dramedy about the hellish world of college cheerleading. The show is based on the book Cheer: Inside the Secret World of College Cheerleaders by Kate Torgovnick. Hellcats stars Disney darling Ashley Tisdale, as well as Alyson Michalka and Matt Barr. Plus, ahem, Tom Welling’s producer title in the credits each week…hello?!

When “indie rocker chick” Marti Perkins (Aly Michalka) loses out on an academic scholarship, she decides to join her school’s cheerleading squad — cue the mean girls and the backstabbing. It co-stars Ashley Tisdale (of High School Musical fame) and is pitched as “a dramatic comedy about the pressures of college life,” with pop numbers. Our source’s comments: “I’ve seen parts of this, too, and it’s pretty bad. For obvious reasons, CTV wants to tap into the success of Glee — this is basically like Bring It On meets Glee — but it doesn’t come together.” (Source)
